LG Optimus 3D officially released in Europe, probably without Gingerbread

Announced way back in February, the LG Optimus 3D is now finally ready to hit the market: LG has officially confirmed that the smartphone is launching now in Europe, and in "more than 60 markets around the world over the next several weeks."

I was hoping that LG delayed the release of the Optimus 3D in order to upgrade it to Android 2.3 Gingerbread - however, it looks like this didn't happen. The press release announcing the handset's launch doesn't include any reference to what version of Android the Optimus 3D runs (in fact, it doesn't include the word Android at all), so I assume it's still 2.2 Froyo, as it was in February. But fret not, an upgrade to Gingerbread will be made available eventually.

Anyway, as you may already know, the new smartphone features a 4.3 inch WVGA glasses-free 3D display, Wi-Fi, DLNA, HSPA, GPS, 3D augmented reality browser, HDMI, dual 5MP cameras for 3D video recording, dual-core 1GHz processor, and 8GB of on-board memory.

LG Optimus 3D set to ship

LG has revealed that they will be shipping their Optimus 3D soon � hitting Europe first before it arrives in the US. This will be their flagship device which is already available for pre-order at Amazon UK, targeting a July 13th shipping date, and if you want to purchase it without a contract, then the price will be a rather steep $969 thereabouts, after conversion, of course. More than 60 other regions will be on the receiving end of the new Optimus 3D within the next several weeks, dropping yet another hint that the AT&T Thrill 4G might be out before summer is over.

The LG Optimus 3D in all its different versions will rely on a dual-core TI OMAP4430 processor to get the hard work done, boasting a 4.3? glasses-free 3D display as well as the ability to record 3D video in 720p or 1080p video in 2D using its twin rear cameras. Other hardware specifications include an HDMI 1.4 output and DLNA video sharing which sends 3D video over to TVs and the local network.

It is rather unfortunately that the last check revealed the LG Optimus 3D running on Android 2.2, so we do hope at least a Gingerbread update is in the works in due time.

LG confirms Optimus 3D delay, still hopes to ship some units in June

The LG Optimus 3D was the first smartphone ever announced to feature a glasses-free 3D display, as well as dual-cameras on the back for 3D photo and video capture. In the meantime, HTC has introduced its very own 3D effort dubbed Evo 3D, but neither phone is shipping yet.

And taking the following news into account, it looks like the Evo 3D, which was announced after the Optimus 3D, will nevertheless be in stores first. Such is the mobile world at times.

What's the deal? Well, a few things have happened today concerning the Optimus 3D. First, Amazon UK put a listing of the device up, allowing pre-orders at the highly insane price of �599.99. But that wasn't the story in itself � the fact that attached to that price was a release date was. So, according to Amazon, the Optimus 3D would ship on June 20 (that's next Monday).

Hours later, however, a blog post from well known UK third party online phone retailer Clove surfaced. In it, the company announces that it is due to receive its first shipment of Optimus 3D devices on July 11. That, of course, is quite a lot later than what we've heard so far regarding Optimus 3D ship dates � first, �late May�, and then �on June 6�.

It goes without saying that neither turned out to be true. And finally, mere minutes ago, LG's UK arm has confirmed that the Optimus 3D is suffering yet another delay, by tweeting just that. LG still hopes that it will receive some limited quantity of Optimus 3D handsets before the end of June, but that looks uncertain.

So, in other words, it looks like some UK retailers may be lucky enough to get a few Optimus 3D devices while it's still June, however for the vast majority, the 3D phone will come in July. And for Clove, one of the biggest and most well known SIM-free retailers, the date will be July 11.

LG Optimus 3D to hit the UK on 20 June, costs an arm and two legs

Amazon UK has updated its LG Optimus 3D listing with new info and pricing. Firstly and most importantly, LG's most exotic flagship is coming on 20 June. Amazon accept pre-orders at �600, but there are better pre-order deals out there.

This is not our first news about the LG Optimus 3D pre-orders. A few weeks ago we informed you that BuyMobilePhones and Clove UK have started taking pre-orders too. The latter offers it for �455 (incl. VAT), which is quite cheaper than the Amazon's pre-order. You should take into consideration however that Amazon definitely do some research before you jump on the Add to basket button. Also make note that it's not Amazon that sells it directly, but one of their registered resellers - KingOfGadgets.

Anyway one thing is important now - the LG Optimus 3D is coming on 20 June in the UK (if Amazon UK is to be trusted). This fits with the T-Mobile UK June window, while Three has listed it for July release.
